Hensol Castle gives you the grandeur of a historic South Wales venue without losing the warmth of a proper celebration. I photographed Zoe and Jarrad’s winter wedding here in December, from preparations and the ceremony through to the speeches, first dance and evening party.
What stood out was the variety. We could create photographs beside the lake, on the jetty and in front of the castle, then move indoors for elegant portraits when the winter light disappeared. The venue team kept everything calm and organised, which meant Zoe and Jarrad could enjoy their guests rather than worry about the schedule.

Most couples tell me they feel awkward in front of a camera. You do not need to practise poses or perform for me. I photograph the hugs, reactions, laughter and people that make your wedding feel like yours.
I will step in with simple direction when it helps, organise family groups quickly and then blend back into the day. The aim is for your gallery to feel natural because the wedding was allowed to remain natural.
It’s a wedding, not a photoshoot.

Beautiful photographs without leaving your wedding for hours
The lake
The lakeside gives us open space, reflections and a quieter moment away from the main entrance. It works especially well when the light is soft.
The jetty
The jetty creates one of Hensol’s most recognisable views. I keep this short and relaxed, using movement and conversation rather than stiff posing.
The castle and grounds
The stone exterior gives photographs a sense of place. The courtyard and grounds also work well for confetti, groups and a quick drone photograph when conditions allow.
What happens if it rains?
We use the castle, not the forecast
Rain does not mean disappointing photographs at Hensol. The staircases, windows, fireplaces, doorways and elegant interiors give us useful light and strong backgrounds. We can also watch for a short break in the weather and step outside for five minutes rather than forcing a long wet portrait session.
For an outdoor ceremony, the Oak Room is the venue’s wet-weather alternative. From a photography point of view, having attractive indoor spaces means there is never pressure to stand outside simply because photographs were planned there.
Your couple portraits
Usually around 10–15 minutes
I do not disappear with you for an hour while your drinks reception carries on without you. At Hensol, the main locations are close enough that we can create a varied set of portraits in around 10–15 minutes.
If the evening light becomes special, we can step outside for another five minutes later. You get the castle, lake and grounds in your gallery while still spending the day with the people you invited.

Have you photographed a wedding at Hensol Castle?

How long do you take us away for photographs?
Usually around 10–15 minutes. We can use the castle, lake and jetty efficiently without making you miss your drinks reception.
Can we still have good photographs if it rains?
Yes. Hensol has staircases, fireplaces, doorways and bright interior spaces, so we can create strong portraits indoors and use any short dry spell outside.
Do you offer both photography and film?
Yes. The Photography collection is £1,500 and Photography + Film is £2,500. Gareth handles the film while I concentrate on the photography, so neither part is compromised.
