Karen and Gerald’s Canada Lodge Wedding
Karen and Gerald’s wedding at Canada Lodge and Lake was a relaxed late-summer celebration with a lakeside ceremony setting, bright confetti, a short evening portrait walk and a live-band party.
Their day made brilliant use of the venue. Everything from the ceremony and reception to the lake, woodland and evening dance floor was close together, so the photography could fit naturally around the celebration rather than taking over it.

The ceremony
A relaxed ceremony inside the Lodge
Karen and Gerald married inside the main Lodge, surrounded by their family and friends. The room’s dark stone feature wall, warm timber details and windows overlooking the grounds gave the ceremony a real sense of place.
I photographed the ceremony quietly from the edges of the room, concentrating on Karen and Gerald’s expressions, the registrar and the reactions around them. There was no need to interrupt what was happening or turn a genuine moment into something staged.
Reception and confetti
From the lakeside room to a brilliant confetti moment
The wedding reception room was dressed in white and pale blue, with the lake and woodland visible through the windows. Photographing the room before everyone sat down preserved the details without delaying the day.
Outside, the afternoon sunshine arrived for Karen and Gerald’s confetti. Their guests formed a line on the lawn beside the Lodge, creating one of the most joyful photographs from the wedding.
Around the grounds
A few relaxed photographs with the wedding party
Once everyone was outside, we used the lawn and lakeside setting for a handful of wedding-party photographs and wider portraits. Keeping these together meant Karen and Gerald were not being pulled away from their guests for long.
Evening portraits
Fifteen minutes around the lake and grounds
Later in the day, Karen and Gerald stepped outside for a short portrait walk. We used the lakeside path, the lawn beneath the large tree and the timber Lodge buildings, creating several different looks without disappearing for an hour.
It’s a wedding, not a photoshoot.
The full route took around fifteen minutes. I kept everything straightforward and relaxed, giving Karen and Gerald enough direction to feel comfortable before getting them back to their guests and the evening celebrations.
First dance and evening party
Live music from The Long Weekend
Karen and Gerald shared their first dance just before the evening party began, with illuminated LOVE letters and the band behind them. Once the formal dance was finished, the room quickly filled and the celebrations carried on with live music from The Long Weekend.
The final photographs are exactly what documentary wedding coverage is about: movement, singing, raised hands and people enjoying themselves rather than looking towards the camera.
