Sophie and Cellan’s Pencoed House Estate wedding was full of the moments that make a wedding feel like a wedding: nervous excitement in the morning, a four-legged ring-bearer, loud confetti, happy tears, quick portraits and a proper party once the sun went down.

They wanted their photographs to feel natural and honest, without spending long stretches away from their guests. That suited my approach perfectly. It’s a wedding, not a photoshoot.

A relaxed morning at the Gatehouse

Sophie got ready in the Gatehouse with the people closest to her. The morning had that brilliant mix of calm and chaos: hair and makeup finishing touches, dresses hanging ready, plenty of laughter and everyone beginning to realise the ceremony was almost here.

Elsewhere, Cellan was getting ready with his wedding party and their dog, who had a very important role later in the day. I photographed both sides of the morning as it happened, keeping things easy and giving everyone space to enjoy it.

A first look with Dad

Before leaving for the ceremony, Sophie shared a first look with her dad. His reaction said everything. These are the moments I am always watching for: unplanned, emotional and over in seconds, but able to bring the whole morning back years later.

The Old Hall ceremony and one very good ring-bearer

The ceremony took place in Pencoed House Estate’s Old Hall. Sophie walked down the aisle surrounded by warm stone, candlelight and familiar faces, with Cellan waiting at the front.

Their dog carried the rings down the aisle and naturally became one of the stars of the ceremony. It was personal, funny and completely them. After the vows, the newlyweds headed outside to a huge welcome from their guests.

Confetti, congratulations and quick portraits

The confetti tunnel was loud, colourful and full of brilliant reactions. Afterwards, Sophie and Cellan had time to speak to their guests while I caught the hugs, congratulations and little moments happening around them.

We kept their couple portraits relaxed and efficient, taking a short walk around the estate and making use of the driveway, woodland edges and historic buildings. Their dog joined us for part of it too. Nothing over-directed, just enough guidance to help them feel comfortable before getting them straight back to the celebration.

Speeches, beer pong and a packed evening

The speeches brought plenty of laughter and a few tears, with the best reactions often coming from the guests listening around the room. After the wedding breakfast, the pace changed completely. There was beer pong, a live saxophone set and no shortage of energy on the dance floor.

Later, Sophie and Cellan shared their first dance before everyone joined them. We finished the photographic story outside with a burst of champagne spray, giving them a lively final frame without turning the evening into a long staged session.
