A secluded lakeside wedding, close to Cardiff
Canada Lodge and Lake sits in the countryside at Creigiau, within easy reach of Cardiff. The water, woodland and lodge buildings give the venue a real sense of privacy, while the ceremony, reception and portrait locations remain close enough to keep the day relaxed.
I have photographed a full wedding here and know how quickly the light and weather can change around the lake. This guide explains the best photography locations, the two wedding spaces, the wet-weather options and how I keep portraits to around 10–15 minutes.

Most couples are not used to being photographed and do not want their wedding turned into a photoshoot. I document the real conversations, laughter, hugs and reactions, then give a little straightforward direction when it is useful.
It is a wedding, not a photoshoot.
Family photographs are organised efficiently and couple portraits normally take around 10–15 minutes. At Canada Lodge, that is enough time to use the lake path, lawn and lodge without taking you away from the drinks reception for ages.
The Lodge or Rhodri’s by the Lake?
Two spaces for different celebrations
Canada Lodge currently offers two wedding settings. The right choice depends mainly on your guest numbers and the atmosphere you want, so confirm the latest capacity and package details directly with the venue.
The Lodge
The main Lodge is designed for larger celebrations. The official venue information lists capacity for up to 120 day guests and 180 evening guests. The timber ceremony room feels warm and characterful, while the lakeside reception room opens towards the terrace and water.
Rhodri’s by the Lake
Rhodri’s is the smaller, more intimate option, with floor-to-ceiling windows, a conservatory and outdoor patio beside the lake. The venue currently lists space for up to 40 day guests and 60 evening guests, although couples should check the arrangement available for their date.

Lake, lawn and woodland within minutes
The venue offers variety without a long portrait session. I choose the locations according to the light and how the wedding is flowing rather than taking you through a rigid list of poses.
The lakeside path
This is the venue’s signature view. A relaxed walk gives natural movement and keeps the lake visible without needing complicated posing.
The flat lawn and fountain
The lawn works well for larger family groups, confetti and wedding-party photographs. It also gives us space to use the fountain and woodland as a clean background.
The lodge buildings
The timber exterior gives the photographs a strong sense of place. Covered edges and doorways are also useful when the weather changes.
What happens if it rains?
A practical wet-weather plan
Rain changes the route, not the story. The ceremony and reception rooms have large windows and lake views, so the setting still feels connected to the outdoors. Covered areas around the buildings give us sheltered options while showers pass.
I keep an eye on the forecast and use short dry breaks. Five minutes beside the lake can be enough, and umbrellas can work brilliantly if you are happy to embrace the weather. You will not be left standing outside while your guests are enjoying themselves.
Your couple portraits
Ten to fifteen minutes, then back to the party
A simple route from the Lodge to the lake and lawn creates several different backgrounds quickly. I keep you moving, talking and focused on each other rather than asking for stiff poses.
If the evening light improves, we can take another five minutes outside. The aim is a varied set of photographs while leaving you with the feeling that you actually attended your own wedding.

Canada Lodge says its 2027 packages have no seasonal price changes, although prices vary by day of the week. Packages and availability can change, so request a current quotation directly from the venue.
